The company

In 2018, Maarten Flikkema founded Flikkema Innovation Management & Consultancy B.V. (FIMC) to support partners through innovation processes. Whether within a company, a consortium, or between organisations, success relies on the connections formed between people.

FIMC is dedicated to helping companies, universities, institutes, and local governments foster these connections and build strong, collaborative teams. We achieve this through interim management, project management, and coordination. At FIMC, we believe that it’s the people who drive a project’s success, and the manager’s role is to facilitate their ability to perform their best.

See the benefit of change
Many successful projects begin with a strong proposal, but for collaborative efforts, building a coalition of partners is just as important. Maarten Flikkema brings extensive experience in forming these coalitions—not only for projects but also in the political arena, having built coalitions to govern a city. In both contexts, the development of a strong, unified team goes hand in hand with shaping the proposal. Respecting diverse opinions and allowing others to achieve their ambitions is the foundation of a successful partnership.

At FIMC, we believe that meaningful change in companies and society comes from the bottom-up. For change to succeed, people need to understand its benefits and the opportunities it brings. Whether it’s a reorganization or a shift in direction, employees must be made partners in the process. This doesn’t eliminate the role of management, but decisions must be communicated clearly and transparently. FIMC offers change management support to guide companies through these critical transitions.

Bottom-up Approach
At FIMC, our management philosophy is built on a bottom-up approach—where the role of the manager is to create optimal conditions for teams to thrive. We prioritise listening to the team’s needs, ensuring their voices are heard, and balancing their input with company objectives. When business priorities must take precedence, we believe in transparent communication to explain those decisions clearly.

Maarten Flikkema’s experience shows that this approach fosters trust, making it easier to implement top-down decisions while maintaining strong team morale.
